A tradition started in 1943

Budo Sosa-Kai originated in the city of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, in April 1943, when our founder Sōke Jorge Sosa Sr. began his Jujitsu or Jujutsu training, to later obtain his Black Belt in Jūdō Kōdōkan in 1955...
Then Sōke Sosa Sr. began his training in Karatedō, Ryu Kyu Kobudō and other Martial Arts under the guidance of masters Nobuyoshi Murata and Kenei Mabuni (the founder’s son of Shitō-Ryu).
As a result of all these events, Sōke Sosa begins an exciting career where he spreads the martial arts in several Latin American countries, establishing around 21 Dōjōs in Guatemala, being the golden age of Karatedō and other martial arts.
He traveled to Japan in 1970 for a special training with Nidaime Kenei Mabuni and other great masters of Japan, and to participate in the First World Karatedō Championship.
Sōke Sosa Sr. gets to be approved as the first world referee from Latin America on par with 33 Japanese, 1 Belgian, 1 South African and 1 French.
Sōke Sosa Sr. preserved the traditional Japanese martial arts throughout these years based on his dedication and passion to them. His sons continue this passion to make known a millenary art for the benefit of many human beings around the world.
